Set beside the iconic Old Course, the R&A World Golf Museum celebrates the history, prestige, and evolution of golf under the stewardship of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. Working alongside the creative team at Fuzzy Duck, a suite of interactive installations was developed as part of the museum’s digital transformation.

Working on a project of this scale, in such an iconic location, presented a series of complex technical challenges that demanded careful planning and precision. Being on-site for delivery made it all the more rewarding, seeing the installations come to life in a space with so much history and significance

At the heart of the experience sat a network of six touchscreen totems, all wirelessly connected and orchestrated via a central Node.js server using WebSockets. Each totem delivered a rotating mix of interactive content, from highlight reels and archival footage to dynamic media that evolved with the golfing calendar, including The Open and the Women’s Open. Every 20 minutes, the system transitioned into a fully synchronised “theatre mode.” Interactivity gently faded away as all six totems aligned with a feature presentation on the central screen. Once complete, the system flowed back into exploration mode, allowing visitors to continue their journey through golf’s rich legacy.

Interactive Gameplay

A series of multi-screen touchscreen games introduced a more hands-on layer to the experience. One featured challenge invited visitors to select the correct club for a variety of on-course scenarios. Equal parts game and learning tool, it offered a glimpse into the decision-making precision required at the highest level of the sport.
